Curriculum Vitae

Date of birth: 5 January 1959.

Job: Research  Professor at the Systematic Zoology Research. Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences at the Loránd Eötvös University, Budapest and senior muzeologist at Department of Zoology, Hungarian Natural History Museum

Education: M.Sc in biology (Eötvös Lorand University (ELTE), Budapest),  C.Sc. in biology (= Ph.D),  D.Sc.

Field of research: Taxonomy, biogeography and ecology of earthworms (terrestrial Oligochaeta).

• Scientific activity: During my 20 years activity on earthworms I have participated on several International Soil Zoological Colloquiums and   soil zoological expeditions to Ecuador (1988, 1990, 1993), to Colombia (1993) to North Korea (1988), Sao Tomé (2000), Chile (2001),  Venezuela (2004) and to the different part of the former Soviet Union. I have published more than 100 scientific papers and described 9 genera 5 subgenera and some 100 species new to science. I had the opportunity to carry out investigation in the Zoological Institute and Museum of the University of Hamburg, and in The Natural History Museum, London. In collaboration with  T. Pavlicek (Haifa, Israel) we have launched an intensive earthworm research to explore the earthworm fauna of the Levant resulted in describing 7 new species from the desert border of the region. Participating in the Baltimore Ecosystem Study LTER project with K. Szlávecz we first recorded a new invasive European earthworm in the USA.
